What actually happens
A yard sale find with a criminal record
Jake Wheeler, 14, buys a vintage Good Guy doll at a yard sale in Hackensack and learns that it holds the soul of serial killer Charles Lee Ray. At the school talent show Chucky humiliates Jake's bully Lexy, and later he kills Jake's father Lucas after Lucas hits Jake. Chucky spends the season coaxing Jake to kill Lexy, and keeps murdering on his own when Jake refuses. The victims include Oliver at a party, the school principal, Bree, who is thrown through a window, and Devon's mother Kim. Jake and Devon share a first kiss, and Jake, Devon and Lexy become allies. Andy Barclay and his foster sister Kyle, who have been hunting Chucky dolls, arrive to help, and so does Tiffany, who travels with a possessed Nica Pierce. In the finale Junior stabs Chucky and dies in Lexy's arms, Jake crushes Chucky's head, and Tiffany sets off a bomb in the basement that seems to take Andy and Kyle with it. A gloved hand appears at the Wheeler graves.

A Catholic school with a Chucky delivery service
Six months later Jake has been placed with foster parents in Salem, New Jersey. Chucky's army of dolls survived the truck crash, and one of them blows himself up along with Jake's foster brother Gary. Jake, Devon and Lexy are blamed and sent to the Catholic School of the Incarnate Lord, built where Charles grew up. More Chucky dolls arrive there in packages. One of them becomes Good Chucky after Jake tries aversion therapy on him, and he ends up fighting an evil one. Meanwhile Tiffany keeps Nica captive and hosts a party at her house, where she is joined by her twin children Glen and Glenda. Nadine dies after Good Chucky slips back into his old habits and shoves her out a window. Dr. Mixter, who treated Charles as a child, wants to move Chucky Prime into a new body, and an exorcism ends with Father Bryce exploding. At Christmas Chucky murders Lexy's mother Michelle, Lexy kills him, and Caroline leaves with Tiffany and a Belle doll that turns out to be Chucky in disguise.
Strict policies against visitors
Chucky moves into the White House as the doll of Henry, President Collins's young son. The doll goes by Joseph, the name of the son Collins lost the previous winter. He kills a security guard named Teddy, a secretary and Miss Fairchild, and his doll body starts to age because Damballa has abandoned him. To get back in favor he needs six sacrifices in an evil place. The scene people dread is the Halloween party in the middle of the season. Chucky plans to kill Jake, Devon and Lexy there, a power outage hits, and when the lights return a chandelier he loosened has fallen on Annie the nanny and several guests. Later Chucky kills Collins and takes the nuclear codes, aims missiles at Moscow, Pyongyang and the North Pole, and is shot in the heart before turning to dust. A missile is still launched at the North Pole. Charles's spirit then appears, and Jake agrees to die briefly to follow him into the spirit realm.
The ending, explained
In the spirit realm Jake meets his father Lucas and forgives him, and learns that Chucky's soul fragments are distracting him while Chucky Prime takes over his body. Pryce's bombs go off and Pryce burns in the Oval Office. Jake-Chucky leads Devon and Lexy to Wendell, the doll maker behind the Good Guy dolls, and with Caroline's help Chucky moves back into a doll. Tiffany escapes her execution, and Caroline moves her into a Belle doll, then drives away with both. Nica later finds that Caroline has also put Jake, Devon and Lexy into marionette dolls, just as Wendell walks up behind her.
