Dog: fine
fine, no dog dies.
Ruling: Fine for a Halloween night with the lights on, and short enough to finish before bedtime.
Dracula runs 74 minutes, and a good part of it is a count being unusually polite to people he intends to bite. It is the old kind of vampire movie, where the fear comes from a hypnotic stare and a carriage with a bat leading the horses.
The premise, briefly
A solicitor travels to a castle in Transylvania to arrange the lease of an English abbey, and the count who owns the castle comes back to England with him.

How it ends
Van Helsing carves a stake from the lid of Dracula's coffin and drives it through his heart at sunrise, and Mina returns to normal. Lucy and Renfield do not survive, and Dracula does not either.
The scene you're dreading
Near the end, at Carfax Abbey, Dracula thinks Renfield led his enemies to him and shoves Renfield down the staircase to his death. You see a push and a fall.
The dog
No dog dies in Dracula, and the animals in it are mostly bats, wolves and flies.
It is a slow, talky vampire story with a few creepy moments, and it ends with the hero staking the villain at sunrise.
THE SHORT VERSION IS HIDDEN
How it ends, the scene you're dreading, what happens to the dog, and the bottom line. About twenty seconds to read.
What actually happens
Never accept a lift from a carriage with no driver
Renfield is a solicitor heading to Count Dracula's castle in Transylvania on business. The villagers fear vampires live there and tell him not to go, but Renfield won't spend the night at the village inn and tells the carriage driver to keep going to the Borgo Pass. Dracula's own coach collects him, with Dracula disguised as the driver, and when Renfield leans out of the window to ask for a slower pace the driver is gone and a bat is leading the horses. At the castle the Count is charming and eccentric, and he talks about leasing Carfax Abbey in England. Then he drugs and hypnotizes Renfield and gets a window opened, his three wives close in, he waves them off, and he attacks Renfield himself.
A schooner arrives with only the raving servant alive
Renfield is now a raving servant to Dracula, who travels on the schooner Vesta in a coffin and feeds on the crew. The ship docks in England with Renfield as the only person left alive, and he is sent to Dr Seward's sanatorium beside Carfax Abbey. Dracula turns up at a London theater and meets Seward, who introduces his daughter Mina, Mina's fiancé John Harker, and their friend Lucy Weston. Lucy is fascinated by the Count. That night he enters her room and feeds on her while she sleeps, and she dies the next day despite a series of blood transfusions.
A mirror with nothing to show
Renfield now eats flies and spiders, which interests Professor Van Helsing, who tests his blood and starts talking about vampires. He shows Renfield some wolfsbane, which he says protects against them. Dracula visits Mina in her bedroom and bites her. When he calls on her again, Van Helsing and Harker notice that he casts no reflection in the mirror, and when Van Helsing points it out Dracula smashes the mirror and leaves. Mina runs to him in the garden, where he attacks her, and Van Helsing orders Nurse Briggs to keep the wolfsbane around her neck. Dracula tells Van Helsing that Mina now belongs to him, Van Helsing sends him off with a crucifix, and Mina tells Harker their love is finished.
Carfax Abbey as the sun comes up
The scariest moment is near the end. Dracula hypnotizes Nurse Briggs, who takes the wolfsbane off Mina's neck and opens the windows. Van Helsing and Harker see Renfield heading for Carfax Abbey and follow him, and at the abbey they find Dracula with Mina. When Harker shouts her name, Dracula decides Renfield has betrayed him and pushes him down the stairs, killing him. What you see is a push and a fall, and then the plot moves on to the sun, which is already coming up. Dracula has to sleep in his coffin during the day, and Van Helsing and Harker know it.
The ending, explained
Dracula must be back in his coffin by daylight, and the sun is coming up. Van Helsing makes a wooden stake out of the lid of Dracula's coffin while Harker goes to look for Mina. Van Helsing drives the stake through Dracula's heart and kills him, and Mina returns to normal. Lucy died earlier, after Dracula fed on her, and Renfield died when Dracula pushed him down the stairs at Carfax Abbey.
