🐱CUT TO THE CHASE
How it ends
Clémentine and Lucas are both caught and dragged away. Text on screen says the bodies turned up five days afterward, and that the attackers were children between 10 and 15 years old.
The scene you're dreading
Near the end, in the sewers, a teenager tortures Clémentine while a younger boy sits nearby and tells him to stop. Lucas arrives and kills the teenager.
The dog
The dog does not make it. It happens off screen: you hear the barking stop, and nothing is shown or discussed.
It is a straightforward night of chases and hiding, and it hurts mainly because of who the attackers turn out to be.

What actually happens
A car that moves itself
A mother and daughter argue while driving down a deserted country road at night, and they crash. The mother gets out to look at the engine and vanishes. The daughter calls for her, and a soft whispering voice repeats the call from the woods. When she tries to phone the police, she is strangled. The next day Clémentine drives past the wrecked car. That night, music outside wakes her, and she and her boyfriend Lucas see that their own car is no longer parked by the house. Lucas goes toward it, and it drives off. Back inside, the television is on and the tap is running. Lucas hits out at an intruder with a poker and breaks the glass in a door, and a large shard goes into his leg. Lucas and Clémentine shut themselves into the bathroom upstairs. Clémentine climbs into the attic looking for a way out, and an intruder takes hold of her, so she shoves him off a balcony. The couple run out of the house and lock a second intruder in behind them.
The pair limp into the woods and reach a fence that Lucas cannot climb because of his injury. He hides in the bushes while Clémentine goes for help. She sees two flashlights and realizes the intruders are catching up with her. She finds her car, but the intruders are waiting for her. Lucas hears her screaming and gets to the car. There he kills one of the attackers, who turns out to be a teenage boy. He follows her screams to a manhole.
The sewer, where everyone finally meets
Lucas goes down the manhole and into the sewers. This is the scene people dread most, and it happens near the end. Clémentine is being tortured by a teenager while a younger boy sits nearby and tells him to stop. Lucas kills the teenager, and the younger boy helps the couple get out through the sewer system. Then the boy turns on them, and Clémentine watches as Lucas is dragged away. Clémentine is about to kill the boy, but he stops her by asking, "Why won't you play with us?" Then she is dragged away too.
The ending, explained
The film closes on a group of hooded children coming out of the woods and running for a bus. They are all boys except for one girl. Text on screen explains that Clémentine's and Lucas's bodies turned up five days afterward, and that the people responsible were children between 10 and 15 years old. When they were questioned, the youngest of the group said that the night's events happened because the couple wouldn't play with them. Lucas and Clémentine do not survive. The children are last seen running for the bus.
The post-credits ruling
Nobody has confirmed whether there is a scene after the credits.
