What actually happens
A hospital stay interrupted by a Council meeting
Grace MacCaullay survives the Le Domas family's attempted sacrifice, passes out outside their estate and wakes up in a hospital, where her younger sister Faith turns up. The two have not spoken since college. Elsewhere, the Council, which is run by the twins Ursula and Titus Danforth along with Wan Chen Xing, Viraj Rajan, Ignacio El Caido and Bill Wilkinson, learns that the Le Domas family is dead and prepares for another game at the Danforth complex. Ursula and Titus kill their father Chester, the Council's leader, so they can take his place. Bill goes after Grace at the hospital but explodes, because he did not wait for the game to start. Both sisters are knocked unconscious and carried to Danforth, where a representative called the Lawyer explains the rules: whichever Council family kills Grace before dawn gets the High Seat and a ring of worldwide power. Grace refuses until Faith's life is threatened, and the eldest members sign a blood oath to start the game.

Two sisters, one set of handcuffs
Grace and Faith are handcuffed together and start on a golf course. After dodging several families, they kill Viraj. Chen Xing tells them a loophole: if Grace marries a member of a Council family, the game ends at once, her spouse gets the High Seat, and the sisters live. Grace refuses. Ignacio interrupts them and is accidentally killed by Chen Xing, and the Wans explode into blood. Faith criticizes Grace for turning down the offer. Viraj's death lets his brother Madhu enter, but he gives his place to his wife Martina, who drives off and wrecks the gate. Ursula almost finishes Grace off, but Faith rescues her. Grace tells Faith she wishes they had never reunited, and a heartbroken Faith leaves. Titus kidnaps Faith, and Grace gets a shotgun and kills Francesca, Ignacio's daughter. Titus uses an intercom to order Grace to the main lounge, where Faith is a prisoner.
A wedding with a clear conflict of interest
Grace charges into the lounge and finds herself surrounded by the remaining players. She uses Chen Xing's loophole and agrees to marry Titus, handing the High Seat to the Danforths and ending the game, even though Faith pleads with her not to. Just before the wedding, Ursula quietly warns Grace that Titus is a psychopath and fears what he will do with the Council. She proposes that the two of them control him after the marriage. Titus overhears, and since the rules do not forbid killing family members, he kills Ursula. The wedding goes ahead at an underground altar in front of a crowd of Satanic cult members.
The goat pit
This is the scene to brace for, and it comes at the end of the wedding. Once the intertwined family blood pacts are signed, Grace jabs a fountain pen into Titus's neck and grabs his ring, quoting his own rule about family members back at him. Faith kicks him into an open pit full of sacrificed goats, where a goat horn impales him. Now that Grace holds the High Seat, she says she is quitting the organization and tosses the ring into the pit. The seat belongs to whoever wears the ring at dawn, so every wedding guest leaps into the pit and they murder one another trying to get it. No one succeeds. At dawn every Council member in the pit, apart from the Lawyer, bursts in a huge blood explosion. Madhu, who hid and believes his forfeited seat saved him, explodes mid-celebration.
The ending, explained
The spirit of Le Bail appears for a moment and nods at Grace and Faith, who are free at last. The sisters walk out of the compound with a sacrificial goat they have freed. Grace promises never to leave Faith again. Ursula, Titus, Francesca and the rest of the Council are dead. The Lawyer is the only one of the Council's circle who does not explode, and Madhu explodes while celebrating.
