Chucky's remains are for sale
A month after Chucky's third demise, Tiffany Valentine, his ex-girlfriend and accomplice, bribes a Lockport, New York police officer named Bob Bailey to sell her what is left of Chucky. She murders Bailey, rebuilds the doll in her trailer and uses a voodoo ritual to bring him back. Chucky comes to and kills Damien Baylock, her goth admirer, which pleases her. The two then fight, because Tiffany finds out Chucky never wanted to marry her. She locks him in a playpen and gives him a bride doll as a taunt. This is the scene people brace for, early in the movie: Chucky escapes, electrocutes Tiffany, and casts a voodoo spell that puts her soul in the bride doll, out of revenge.

The Heart of Damballa and a van full of marijuana
Chucky tells her that to leave their doll bodies, they need a magical amulet, the Heart of Damballa, which was buried alongside his human body. They pick two bodies to move into: Jesse Miller, the handsome neighbor of Tiffany, and his girlfriend Jade Kincaid. Tiffany phones Jesse and offers him a thousand dollars for a ride to Hackensack, New Jersey, with the two dolls, since Chucky is buried there. Jesse wants to marry Jade and needs cash, so he says yes. Warren Kincaid, Jade's strict uncle and the police chief, plants a bag of marijuana in Jesse's van to get him arrested. Chucky and Tiffany seem to kill Kincaid and stash him in the van, and Jesse and Jade drive off unaware. Officer Norton pulls them over and finds the marijuana, and when he goes back to his patrol car, Chucky sets off its gas tank.
A wallet goes missing at the hotel
Jesse and Jade run, start to suspect each other of killing Norton, and get married anyway. Kincaid comes back to life for a moment, and Chucky stabs him to death. At a hotel another couple steals Jesse's wallet, and Tiffany murders them out of spite. Watching her, Chucky realizes he loves her and proposes marriage. The following morning David, a friend of Jesse and Jade, shows up and joins the trip. He says they are the main suspects but thinks they're innocent, until he finds Kincaid's body and abruptly concludes they are murderers, and he holds them at gunpoint. Chucky and Tiffany reveal that they are alive and threaten David with guns, which startles him into stepping in front of a truck.
Tiffany ends up in the oven
Chucky and Tiffany take an RV to get away from the police. Jesse and Jade provoke an argument between the dolls to distract them, and in the chaos Jade kicks Tiffany into the oven while Jesse shoves Chucky through a window. Chucky regains control, gets the amulet from his dug-up grave and takes Jesse and Jade hostage. When he begins the ritual, Tiffany changes her mind about hurting them and tries to kill him, but he overpowers her and stabs her to death. Jesse takes advantage and knocks Chucky into the grave. Lt. Preston, a private investigator who has been tracking the case, shows up and is shocked to see Chucky alive. Jade takes his gun, fires every bullet into Chucky and finishes him.
The ending, explained
Chucky dies when Jade shoots him in the grave after he kills Tiffany. Jesse and Jade survive, and Lt. Preston declares them innocent. Then Tiffany comes back briefly, starts screaming, and gives birth to a baby doll. The baby doll attacks Preston. Warren Kincaid, Norton, David, Bailey and Damien are dead along the way.
