The Daltons confuse politeness with a safety plan
While on holiday in Italy, Ben and Louise Dalton, who live in London with their preteen daughter Agnes, befriend Ant, a boy who cannot speak, and his parents, Paddy and Ciara, who are British. Ant's parents explain that a genetic condition left him with a smaller tongue and aphasia from birth. Once everyone is home, Paddy and Ciara ask the Daltons to spend a weekend at their isolated Devon farmhouse, and the Daltons say yes. The welcome is warm, but the hosts keep stepping over social lines, and they are rough with Ant. At a dinner out, Paddy mocks Louise for being a vegetarian and makes a crude sexual joke with Ciara in front of the guests. Later that night Louise finds Agnes and Ant in one bed with a drunk Paddy and Ciara. The Daltons run out of the house, then have to turn back because Agnes left her favorite stuffed animal, Hoppy, behind.

A shed full of other people's luggage
Paddy and Ciara apologize, and the Daltons decide to stay and keep the peace, although the hosts keep acting oddly. Ant steals Paddy's keys and leads Agnes to a locked shed. It is full of luggage and other people's belongings, along with a photo album of Paddy and Ciara posing with several other families. That tells Agnes what the couple do: they bring families to the farmhouse, rob and kill them, and cut out the children's tongues. Agnes pretends to have gotten her first period so she can get Louise and Ben alone and tell them. The Daltons agree to leave calmly and come back with the police to rescue Ant.
Louise answers the hospitality with a hammer
Paddy and Ciara realize the Daltons know. With help from their accomplice Mike, they sabotage the getaway and capture the family, then force them to transfer their life savings and prepare to murder them and take Agnes's tongue. Louise attacks Paddy and hurts him, which lets the Daltons run into the house with Ant. During the chase through the house, Louise hits Mike with a hammer, killing him, and gets to Ben in time to save him. The family climbs onto the roof while Ciara aims a shotgun at them. Louise hits her, and Ciara falls off the roof to her death.
Ant gets the last word, and a brick
As the Daltons try to leave, Paddy appears with a gun on Agnes and says he intends to make her his new companion in place of Ciara. This is the scene people dread most, so here is all of it. Agnes injects Paddy with the ketamine syringe that was meant for her, and he collapses. The Daltons start to go, and Ant walks over to Paddy. Paddy accepts what is coming and says to him, "That's my boy." Ant beats Paddy to death with a brick while screaming out all of his anger and pain, and the Daltons watch in horror. When it is over, the family and Ant drive away from the farmhouse. During the ride back, Agnes hands Hoppy over to Ant, who sobs quietly with relief.
The ending, explained
The Daltons escape the farmhouse together, and Ant leaves with them. Mike dies from Louise's hammer, and Ciara falls from the roof after Louise hits her. Paddy is drugged by Agnes with the ketamine syringe meant for her, and Ant beats him to death with a brick. Ben, Louise and Agnes survive, badly shaken. On the ride back, Agnes hands Hoppy over to Ant, who cries quietly with relief.
